Fantastic or Flop...

I LOVE baking and crafting.  For me, baking and crafting is a hobby and a source of stress relief.  I love looking through recipes, finding something new and interesting to make, and testing the recipe or craft for myself.  I love googling ideas for home decor and ways to add a little spunk to my home.  Sometimes I follow the recipe or craft step by step, and other times I like to put my own spin on it.

Often when I am looking through recipes or craft ideas online, I wonder if the simple home baker and semi talented home "crafter", such as myself, will be able to pull off the beautiful dish or craft on the pictures splayed across my computer screen.  I have often wished there was a website I could go to that had tried and tested said recipes or craft ideas, to let me know if the outcome was fantastic or a flop.

...So, I decided to be said blog.  I will test recipes and craft ideas I come across; perhaps they will be followed detail by detail, or perhaps they will come with my own spin, I'll let you know.  I will add simple tips as to why the recipe or craft idea worked, or how it can be adapted to make the outcome better.

Mind you, I am not a trained chef or a super talented crafter.  I am simply a wife and mom who likes to cook and craft in her spare time.  I am not a professional, but I love learning all I can about cooking, baking, ingredients and foods as well as crafting.  I love learning the science behind why something works, and adding that to a recipe the next time I find a need.

So, if you will all join me on my journey, I would love for you to see my "flops" recipes and crafts as well as my fantastic recipes and crafts, and perhaps, learn something while finding humor along the way.

Texas Roadhouse Rolls

I adapted this recipe from the copycat Texas Roadhouse Rolls recipe that can be found on many different websites, via a simple google search.  I had been eyeballing this recipe for a while and had tried the recipe before.  Each time I tried the recipe, it just never seemed to come out right.  This time I put my own spin on the recipe, and I feel like it turned out FANTASTIC! Here is the recipe as it appears on many of the websites I found via google search: Ingredients 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 envelope) active dry yeast 1 1/4 cup milk, scalded 3 tablespoons melted butter, slightly cooled 1/4 c. sugar 4 cups all-purpose flour 1 large egg 1 teaspoon salt melted butter for basting rolls Method: In a small saucepan, bring milk to a boil and remove from heat. Allow to cool to room temperature. In a small microwave-safe dish, melt butter and set a side. In a separate bowl, mix together yeast, warm water, and 1 tablespoon sugar. Cover and set aside for 5 minu
